Caravanserai

Kusadasi’s historic Kurunlu Han, also known as the Okuz Mehmet Pasha Caravanserai, is located near the Kusadasi Pier. It was originally constructed as a fortress in 1618 by Grand Vizier Okuz Mehmet Pasha before being repurposed as a caravanserai. The caravanserai features a rectangular courtyard surrounded by thick, high walls, with a two-story, arcaded enclosed space. It was built using rubble stone and reclaimed materials.

Resembling a small inner castle, the caravanserai boasts a distinctive triangular, pointed roof. The spacious courtyard is lined with rooms, and the structure has undergone various restorations throughout the years, standing in solid condition. Two staircases located at the northwest and southeast corners provide access to the upper floor. The caravanserai’s entrance is situated on the north side, featuring a marble doorway adorned with an arched structure.
